Do you have a problem to keep your weight off in the long run? This is a common issue among many of us, and it just does not stay off despite all the hard work we put into the exercises and diet. What can we do about that?
Here are some ways that we think will work!
1. Set Realistic Goals
It is crucial for you to know if your goals are realistic to begin with. The goals that you set for yourself have to be proportionate to your weight and height. For example, if you are 1.60m tall, your ideal weight should be in the range of 51.2 to 64.0 kg, and if you are 1.75m tall, your ideal weight should be in the range of 61.3 to 76.6 kg. You can use this chart to check your ideal weight range before setting a goal! You must not set goals that are unattainable because that will only frustrate and de-motivate you.
Setting realistic goals also mean giving yourself enough time to lose those fats. Pacing yourself with a reasonable timeline is essential to motivate yourself to keep on going on. It is reasonable to try and lose 1 kg a month, but it is not reasonable to try and lose 5 kg a month. That is unattainable without going through extreme and unhealthy methods of losing weight.
2. No Extreme Diets
In today’s world, people are obsessed with an ideal image that is almost unattainable by human standards. There are even unhealthy trends going on across the globe where people, especially ladies, go through extreme diets just to slim down. These diets are harmful and can cause damage to your body in the long term. Diets such as the apple diet or the liquid diet are detrimental to your body and can potentially result in undesirable consequences later.
Instead, work out a suitable diet that consists of whole food such as grains, vegetables, meat and fruits. You can consider cutting down on carbohydrates, but you should not skip them totally. Moderation is key to a healthy diet. Speak with a nutritionist if you are serious about changing your diet to lose weight healthily.
3. Exercise and Stick to it
Exercise is the primary factor to help you lose the weight that you want to lose. Therefore, do not skip this at all. Plan an exercise routine that is suitable for your body type and goals. If you are trying to lose weight in general, consider an exercise routine that includes whole body workout such as swimming, HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) and cardio. If you are targeting specific areas of your body, consider weight training, and core exercises that build muscles.
What is vital to an exercise routine is that you have to stick to it. Find a gym kaki or a running/swimming partner who can pace you and encourage you to keep to it. Both of you will motivate each other and increase accountability as well. If there is nobody that you can count on as a gym kaki, just make friends at the gym, and you are all set!
4. Party Lesser and Engage in more Sporty Hobbies
If you think dancing in a club is helping you to lose weight, you are far from being right. Sleeping late, drinking beer and eat supper contribute to your weight gain tremendously. If you are serious about weight loss, stop partying every week. Instead, engage in more sporty hobbies that get you out into the outdoors. Join a brisk walking group, or perhaps gather your friends for a weekly badminton session. Such hobbies will supplement your regular exercise routine and help you to enjoy your time while exercising.
The most important thing is to plan your daily routine. Weekdays may be tougher to spend a whole day out as you need to work, but plan some exercises in the evening so that you get your body working up a sweat. Even getting off the bus or mrt one stop before your actual stop and walking home is considered a viable way to exercise. Weekends, on the other end, are ideal for more exercises. You can hit the gym or organise a badminton session with some friends. You can also go swimming, jogging or cycling. The possibilities are endless!
